AZ Alkmaar vs Vitesse Soccer Prediction Today
Vitesse make the journey north to Alkmaar for this midweek Eredivisie clash between two sides vying for Europe.
On 65 points, AZ have had a magnificent campaign and look comfortable in third place. The last time they achieved more points they were crowned Champions in 2008/’09 (with 80 points). AZ swept aside Heracles 3-0 over the weekend and although they are eight points clear of Feyenoord in fourth – one more victory will mathematically seal their European status for next season.
John van den Brom (AZ) will most likely have one eye on the ‘Cheeseheads’ cup final on Sunday and may slightly alter his team sheet to keep players fresh.
Away from home, sixth-place Vitesse have been in poor form of late, and are now winless in their last four away league games (D1, L3). It was a dream debut for Vitesse caretaker manager Edward Sturing at the weekend, as he steered Vitesse to their largest ever Eredivisie victory over Sparta Rotterdam (7-0).
However, claiming all three points at the AFAS Stadion will be difficult, as Vitesse have not tasted victory here in the league in their last seven visits (D2, L5).
Players to watch:
AZ have two Eredivisie Golden Boot contenders on 15 goals apiece in Alireza Jahanbakhsh (two goals in five games) and Wout Weghorst (three goals in three games).
Bryan Linssen (VIT) has 13 goals from the midfield this season and scored a brace in their 7-0 home win against Sparta.
AZ have scored two or more goals in seven of their last eight league games, all eight of those games finished with over 2.5 goals in total.
AZ are unbeaten in 29 of the 42 historical meetings between the sides (W20, D9), although Vitesse have emerged victorious in two of the last three meetings in all competitions.
This game will be captain Guram Kashia’s 243rd Eredivisie appearance for Vitesse, making him the most capped player in the club’s history.
